This weekend, summer hit in full force, with frozen treats and swimming the only reprieve from the heat. Up to now, we enjoyed the long spring, with plenty of time relaxing outdoors. Of all the changes we have made to our house, the biggest impact was creating a welcoming gathering space in the back yard.
The past few winters have been harsh, and some plants simply have not thrived. It has been fun to play around with new plantings within the overall structure Garden Getaway Designs established. Changes have included adding herbs and swapping out honeysuckle for blackberries on trellises along the side of the house. This blackberry variety is tart even when ripe. So far, the best use is muddled with some homegrown mint in soda and simple syrup.
